My life at the moment is in slow-motion. I go to work, I read, I sleep, I go to work. On weekends I see friends, pehaps sew a little, read some more and generally veg on the couch. Ahhhh, the life of a single person. I have sewn the top of the quilt, but I need a bit of a contraption (or a volounteer) to hold it up to get a picture. I have also, after a few months of searching for the right fabric, finished my "I got wings" jacket. Soon to be worn in public. (click on image to enlarge, or go to my deviantart profile ) At the moment I am helping out a friend while her husband is overseas. Oh boy, two nights of a screeming 2 1/2 year old hours past bedtime, is exhausting. Although, last night there was silence - blissful silence! It can get better in other words. And I know that C's and my prayers were answered. After a few nights only, I honestly do not know how single mothers cope, either with one or with more. I also understand the joys of motherhood slightly...

"Flame war"

In light of what my borther calls "flame war" on his facebook page, for those of you are freinds with my brother. Here is a longer explanation of my initial statement (on the first post about religion haveing to stay out of classrooms) that I thought we were "debating" until some really hectic value statements were made. Now first, to be all on the same page when we use certain words, a few definitions are in order. Firstly the word "theory" as opposed to "hypothesis". According to my brother, ALL religious people do not understand the difference. According to the Oxford Dictionary a theory has the following meanings: 1. A supposition or system of ideas explaining something esp. one based on basic principles independent of the particular things to be explained. (theory of evolution, atomic theory) 2. a speculative (esp. fanciful) view (one of my pet theories) 3. the sphere of abstract knowledege or speculative thought (this is all very wel...

WIP (Work in Progress)

H (!) here is a bit of what I have been up to with the fabric from your mom. The cutting stage.... I think I am crazy to tackle this, but once I started going, it will become easier and quicker. So, here is one of the corner pieces.

Inspirational and final reminder

Your last chance to enter the giveaway is today.... Just to remind you. So far I only have two entries - My brother and a friend who shared the post on facebook. So, if you still want to win the softwware, comment away on the original post, like their facebook page or their twitter - you do, however need to let me know in a comment. Then I wanted to share with you these two fantastic Focus on the familiy episodes. Now R & H will know how much I LOVE christian fiction (Especially Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti), so it is no wonder that this Frank Peretti presentation from Focus on the Family caught my attention. ( Part one here and Part two here ). It is really funny, and at the same time challenges what you believe and why you believe it. I thought I'd jsut share a few clips that I thought were profound in this Postmodern era of ours: "If you're looking for truth, don't look within yourself. You are the one that is confused!" "Evolution is: From goo to y...

FIRST EVER GIVEAWAY :)

hello my friends I have received an awesome giveaway. I was asked to review this digital scrapbooking software. It comes via MyMemories.com . I think it is so much better than having to sit and stick things down and then not being satisfied with the results. I always tend to overdo things. And I can ammend once I am done. I have kept things fairly simple in this little version: I have made use of only a very samll selection of the features of the programme. You can even add music. Once you have played and are ready to print, just print directly or convert to JPEG and voila! The backgrounds are preset, but you can also buy extra kits from their website and get even more creative. The layouts are also very varied, with lots of little pictures per page, or one big one, or a combination, as you can see with the sunsets. All elements can be shifted and changed. In this way you can create your own templates and use in other albums. The borders are darkened to inidcate where...

WIP - done

I had this dresser since I was, I don't know, 10? And "beautified" it around 13.... Oh, boy! It was time for a make-over DIY Before And After => i noticed that wood darkens with age, so the circles remained. Bummer, but nonetheless I am very happy also with the drawers inside, since no more teensy tiny splinters get caught in my stockings... For the job I had borrowed a sander, but found that the only place to really do the job was in the shower (sorry, no balcony), the noise just became too much, so I wound up doing a lot of the sanding by hand. This was the elbow-grease part of the project, the varnishing was quick, and since I wanted a vynil sticker to go over teh light patches, which I had designed and gotten a quote for, I was not too worried about varnish. HOWEVER, once the company who cuts the stickers actually had done the work of re-tracing the design, they wanted to charge me double the original, albeit verbal quote. So, plan B sprung into action......

The year flies by

SO, in July I said I would tackle all those WIP pieces that I always wanted to do. Well, hahahaha I should have known that things do not turn out like they are planned in my head. I have sewn a pair of pants for myself, only to find that they were so tight that I had to make alterations even before I wore them. Not cool, so I gave them away. Another thing I did with them was to taper the leg, like is so in voge at the moment. That also turned out to be a not so good idea, since my legs are shaped all wrong for that type of style. (Sorry no pictures for that, it was just too awful for words) What I did finish, however, was another jersey Easy pattern and to follow, from an oldish magazine I also started on another jersey - am trying a different armhole/ sleeve shape. It's striped white, turquoise and chocolate brown. I added the brown because after starting I realised that the stripes would look too much like the Western Province Rugby team. (And I am NOT a rugby fan) I...
