Random things

How to make a piece of wool stand up :)   Baby feet - don't you just love them??? My Amarylis is RED and flowering with four blossoms. God is amazing, how he draws these huge, marvelous flowers and leaves from such a small bulb. Then I noticed, that the red of the flower reflects the light - truly amazing

Done!!!

Image
I started the first about three years ago, noticed I had too many squares and then JUST HAD TO start a second one. Finished the second top last week and had the backing and batting already washed from last year, rearing to go. Quilting took Friday evening and Saturday. Binding then just about another hour. Now, they are going to be prezzies :) (NO, I do not make them to order)  Quilted width-wise with peach coloured backing Quilted length-wise with pink backing

Weekend :) and :'(

Image
This weekend came with some sad news - H&R my heart goes out to you and you know that my prayers are with you. But on a more uplifting note: my friend M and I went to Lourensford " Kamersvol Gesenke " market. (meaning rooms full of presents). It was a stunning day and I did buy one or two things, but moreover, I took pictures for inspiration. M had a new toy and she will post some on facebook. here are my impressions:  I want one of these Christmas trees - please!!  Shoes, anyone???  I want this lovely print above and below!!!

Knitting, knitting, knitting....

This is what has kept be busy on "boring" nights and weekends. the little inset is a close-up of the pattern.

Childrens' story

(a Fashion design project based on stuffed animals - we had to come up with designs and a story. Sorry, the designs were trashed with the contents of my parent's house) Anabel and Suzi were enemies and so a fairy decided to interfere and change both into stuffed animals at a toy store. They could still speak to each other, however. Anabel had been changed into a kangaroo and Suzi into a rabbit. Unknown to them, an evil wizard had changed Franco and Maxwell into a hedgehog and teddy respectively. They, too, could still talk to each other. They had been stuck at the toy store for such a long time, that they were put on sale. People did not buy them, since all the children in that town already had a teddy and hedgehogs were perceived to be too prickly. Great was Maxwell's joy when he heard Anabel and  Suzi fighting about their lot. He promptly launched himself out of the sales basket and called to the girls. Franco, being his prickly self, did not want to have anything to do

Unfortunate names for food companies

The mind boggles why anyone would a) name their food distributor this and b) why people would buy from them: Uncanny foods Gastro foods I mean: Seriously, where the no better options? (both found in Cape Town - you might be able to google them)

Odometer reading

Broekieslace

In my other post I was questioning the authenticity of this broekieslace. Turns out that there is another house that has the same For anyone interested, it's for sale.... here while the link lasts :) The only problem is it's in Australia. :( Seems that broekieslace is the in-thing

Yesterday morning, just before the sun peeked out over the mountains..... Yes, that pole still bothers me - nothing I can do about it though (I'm not a photoshop or gimp boff)

After a year and a half I finally have evidence that it IS indeed a military airport that I overlook every day. EVIDENCE: Also, it seems that I have the privilege of watching the airshow this year..... ('SEEMS' being the operative term - I'm not sure though)

Random things I wanted to photograph at work

Image
Yes, for those of you who don't know, I teach at a fashion school in Cape Town. The official website is here . The following pictures are VERY random things I see every day - courtesy of the students :)  Thanks to Bronwyn G. Thanks to Courtney C (I think) from the Top Billing project Sanelisiwe S. for her SA Fashion Week entry (Yes, they are school socks) Thanks to Fiina A. beads wrapped in fabric to form bobbles. Thanks to Minky M - not sure what she used to make these stunning flower-shapes Thanks Hannah L - your dress is funky. Thanks Callen P. the stitching on your T-Shirt was too awesome to resist. All the grey numbers hanging on a rail Erica S and me doing a little brain drain fabric manipulation. That's it. Hope some of these inspire you.....

Eye-candy

A bit of inspiration for all

My Friday evening...

Image
It was a beautiful warm - berg-wind 25 Degrees day..... My friend M and I  headed over to (ok, the picture is turned, but otherwise people will look at you funny when you turn your head to read!) for some SUSHI - Yummy, yummy yum Because of a little leaflet in the mail, we got complementary bread, leeeetle cocktails (sorry, no pictures - I woke up a little too late to the fact that I had a camera). After the dinner (platter for 2) we were treated to: (I do apologise for the quality of the pics, the flash overexposed and I could not get it any better) The yummiest chocolate mousse with Cape Velvet.... AND the sweetest cupcakes (in more ways than one) - with sparkle icing!!! AND Irish coffees. All for free. Who said that you do not get anything for free these days. We only paid for the sushi, a glass of wine and coffee. Best recommendation EVER!! Head on over to Leaf restaurant and bar. They ROCK!!

Additions

Image
A few additions to my life.... The couch was especially covered to suit me, in a stone bull denim and the Ottoman in front of it came absolutely free. I then won a cake - no, that is not the addition, but the granite board underneath was. And now for some eye-candy. Never seen this type of "broekieslace" before....

The Alien Invasion

Image
I could not resist taking these pictures the other day, coming from a shopping trip: The Alien Invasion has arrived..... :)

Blessings II

Image
So, I have had holiday and did a whole lot of nothing. It was fantastic. I did however, help a friend with some of her mending (no, she did not ask, I offered) and it was such a fantastic day - I got fed (yummy pasta and brownies), did what I love and had company doing it. In return, I received...... Home-made Biscotti!!! YUMMY, thank you Se7en. Also, I ordered and received a brand-spanking-new couch. What a pleasure to not sink almost to the floor when relaxing (I used a low bed as couch before). The Ottoman came as a freebie - don't you just love those?

Fans, fans and more fans

Image
Let me just say that I'm really NOT a soccer fan, nor any sport for that matter. But am I glad that my friend Pat convinced me to do the fan walk with her. There is nothing like hearing the crowds go wild when a goal is scored. I'm talking about the first goal of the match between Germany and Argentina (from the 3rd minute). I then watched the rest of the game on the telly, and I must honestly say it was a fantastic game. So, here are pictures of some of the 300 000 fans on that day (yes, the number is correct).
